Learn ALL you need to know about PURIM in 1 HOUR

Purim is more than just costumes and cookies.

It's time to understand Purim on a fundamental AND deep level, and finally be the most informed person at your Purim party!

"They tried to kill us. They failed. Let's eat!" Purim falls into the classic Jewish holiday theme, but its story is anything but ordinary.

1️⃣ There’s this Persian king who throws six-month-long parties, picks a new queen based on a beauty contest, and doesn’t realize his new wife, Esther, is secretly Jewish.

2️⃣ The king's advisor (Haman) plots to kill all the Jews because one guy, Mordechai, won’t bow to him.

3️⃣ Esther reveals her identity just in time, Haman gets hanged on his own gallows (oops), and the Jews not only survive but throw the wildest annual party to celebrate.

Not only is it a wild story, but when you look closer Purim is about finding courage, embracing our Jewish identity, and celebrating the joy of survival.

This year, learn the basics and then go beyond the basics. Dive into Purim’s history, embrace its mitzvot, and bring meaning to your celebration.

Here are a few pieces we think you’ll enjoy:

Purim is about the struggle of identity against assimilation, the value of tolerance, and to live proudly as Jews in an ocean of non-Jews.

Purim has something for everyone. In celebrating the Purim, our tradition outlines four special mitzvot for the holiday.

For too long, the voices of Jewish women have been sidelined. The Torah gives us a glimpse of the Matriarchs' strength, but male-elevated commentaries leave us asking: Where are the women? In the Conservative/Masorti Movement, we've made strides. Women have been rabbis since 1985, and today, they lead our communities in countless ways. Women are scholars, halakhic authorities, educators, cantors, and synagogue presidents. But there's still work to do. Too often, Jewish text study and liturgy...
