Learn about the STRENGTH of Jewish Women

For too long, the voices of Jewish women have been sidelined.

The Torah gives us a glimpse of the Matriarchs' strength, but male-elevated commentaries leave us asking: Where are the women?

In the Conservative/Masorti Movement, we've made strides. Women have been rabbis since 1985, and today, they lead our communities in countless ways. Women are scholars, halakhic authorities, educators, cantors, and synagogue presidents.

But there's still work to do.

Too often, Jewish text study and liturgy still default to a male-centered perspective, leaving us searching for more inclusive and relatable content.

We must continue elevating the voices of Jewish women, past and present, in our prayers, our stories, and our leadership.

When we study Jewish texts, seek out the often-overlooked contributions of women. When we pray, recognize how liturgy evolved to reflect the sacred experiences of all Jews. When we lead, ensure that every person has the opportunity to shape and strengthen our communities.

This week, we’re spotlighting three stories that lift up women’s voices. Be part of the change and keep reading!

Despite the odds, when things feel out of your control, when you feel abandoned – do not despair and do not simply pray – ACT.

Elevating the Matriarchs is important. Rabbi Goodman encourages this with a midrash on Parashat Shemini, urging that representation matters.

Changes in liturgy are born out of changes in the theological and historical life of a people, both the individual and the community.
